R22 (dichlorofluoromethane) is an HCFC‑type refrigerant for medium‑ and low‑temperature applications. It is colorless and nearly odorless at room temperature, appears as a transparent liquid under pressure, is non‑flammable, exhibits excellent thermal stability, and has low corrosivity toward metals. It is widely compatible with residential and commercial air‑conditioning systems as well as cold‑storage refrigeration equipment, delivering stable cooling performance. However, this substance poses a risk of ozone depletion and is being phased out in accordance with environmental regulations. It is packaged in sealed cylinders and should be stored in a cool, well‑ventilated area; handling must comply with safety guidelines.
